After a long time off the water i was looking forward to a good sail, comfortable 5.0m weather would have been nice, but not today!
I got to overcombe just before high tide,no one about so sat for a whlie to check it out.The wind was dead cross shore & the sea rough,by the time i had rigged a 4.2m the tide was dropping & the shore break appearing.
1st run out i was massively overpowered, but the main problem was only being able to squeeze my toes in the straps due to winter boots.this made sailing impossible.so back in to adjust the straps & flatten/more downhaul the sail.
Had a few runs & now the waves were really starting to pick up, there was white caps every where & the gusts were really strong.I came in to change down to 3.8m just as a load of rain went through. i sat this out on the beach under the sail for protection, once the rain had passed the wind went more west & was cross offshore. So i thought i would give it another go but ended up swimming about in the big wind shadow caused by the huge bank of shingle beach.
A few others started getting on now & endured swimming round.I eventually got out & it was still well windy, the order of the day now was frontside riding, for a time the waves were way over head high,& the sun even came out for a while.Tight turns on the waves for me was hard with so much power in the sail but good fun all the same, one ride i hit the lip & had a nice little arieal over the white water. As the tide dropped so did the height of the waves.
Not a 5 star, cus of much beach time messing with kit & the swimming in the wind shadow.
